So much for the daily blogging……..”something” is ailing my computer……….see you later in the month……..
| Don’t Buy Bush’s War………If you’ve never been to Code Pink’s site, go……..I/ we or some of us wear hot pink when we stand on the corner every week…….CODEPINK4PEACE.ORG……..Activists. Join ‘em.Other stuff i suggest you don’t buy……..Toys Made In China (remember when you could give a kid a bucket and a bunch of clothes pins?) You still can………….Redwood mulch. They cut down redwood trees and grind them up for mulch. Really……….Meat. You know why…………Pesticides. Let the bugs eat your plants. And I’d rather see the occassional roach than live in a cloud of pesticide………….Speaking of pesticide, don’t buy anti-bacterial anything, that’s what’s in it……..And last but not least,BOTTLED WATER.,,,,,,,,,,and on and on……. |
That’s what I bought at The Mall yesterday………A popular favorite of preteens and women of a certain age…….They were my birthday present to myself………The tides of time can drag me kicking and screaming into old age, but I’ll dig my heels in the dirt, heels stylishly clad in Red Converse Hightops………I plan to break them in at the St.Augustine artwalk this evening. Fun. Cool.
Ok, enough of this ridiculousness and back, after today, to the grim realities of BushWorld 2007.Read the insightful comments by Natalia/ Recent Comments on The Day After and A Dollar Short. She tells it like it is.
I will do a post every day!……..Sounded like a good idea at the time…….Now it’s 6:18p.m. and my mind’s a blank………Well, not really, it’s quite crowded with the fruits of today’s labor’s, the headlines, old issues cropping up, demanding their moment in the sun……Which ill do I pick? Or I could do a post about something happy, some uplifting words, or something trivial……..I went to The Mall yesterday, which I do about once a year, maybe twice, I had to, there was something there that I Really Wanted………The Mall was bustling, all those happy shoppers consuming away as if they hadn’t a care in the world! And I was one of them!……Oh. joy! Frittering away the day, munching on burgers in the Food Court (veggieburgers), running up my charge card, yep, a real American, contributing to the economy by shopping, that pastime of so many folks……usually I shop in thrift stores……..And if I haven’t already lost you to sheer boredom, what was the item I just had to have?………….
No, I won’t divulge my frivolous, self-indulgent purchase today………maybe tomorrow…….
Here is a piece of recent artwork, serious subject matter…….I don’t have the answer, but it requires compassion for one’s fellow humans……..I took the photos of the “wall” in Nogales and the brutal desert………I love Mexico, and the Mexican people…….I would like to live there……Certainly more than a bit of irony in that wish.
Bear in mind the title of this blog…….While the subjects of today’s rant may seem of miniscule importance, at first glance, in light of the truly bad news this week, but it does address personal transformation (Who am I to judge?!!!……Judge not, lest ye be…….I can self-righteously point to my teeny tiny carbon footprint, so………..I’ll blather on) Several news items jumped out at me from the Sunday paper recently pertaining to my post title………Let’s tackle greed first……..A new house some Rich Guy is building……..the house that Arnie’s building for himself and his family, not that I’ve ever met them……..maybe he has a really large family, like 25 or 30,maybe that’s why his house is going to be nearly FIFTY THOUSAND Square Feet, just a wee bit larger than Bill Gates house……..This behemoth sits on a mountain near Hartford, Connecticut, just a private home, just a humble abode……….So while some of us (those with some smidgen of a social conscience) are turning down our thermostats, buying smaller cars, hanging our clothes on the line, the Super Rich are still acting like Unca Scrooge………..Just imagine what good works could have been done with the millions this house cost………Yes, the rich are different from you and me…….Their self indulgence knows no bounds. If I were a Buddhist, I would simply know that Arnie Chase might possibly return in the next life in not so pleasant circumstances. But I’m not. I’d like to see him slip on a banana peel in his new kitchen, bang his head on the granite countertop, and suffer from amnesia the rest of his days……”Gee, this is a nice house, wonder whose it is?”
On to misplaced priorities, not that the former isn’t, but this is a whole bunch of people in a collective insanity……………ONE HUNDRED NINETY MILLION for a New Church…….Yes, just what we need…..another church!!……..already half the money has been in the form of donations…….folks in New Orleans still need help, and folks in Oakland, where this monstrosity will be located, also could use some help………schools need books, basic supplies…….What does building a church like this have to do with the basic tenets of Christianity?……..Nothing……..I imagine Jesus dropping in one of these days, and learning of the EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND homeless people in the United States…….”But what are these large, warm, beautiful, empty buildings in every town and city?, he asks. “Why, they’re monuments to you!”, answers the Bishop from Oakland.
Among other questions I imagine Jesus would have about The Way Things Are. Oh yes, if I were Queen, it would all be much different!!
I had decided to quit blogging…….I’ll plan on doing a post, and then time goes by, first thing I know it’s been 3 weeks……..But, instead I’m going to BLOG EVERY DAY, kind of like flossing my teeth, taking a multi-vitamin, exercising…….So, inane or profound, I’ll spit out what’s on my mind.
If you listen closely, it’s not thunder after all, it’s the start of another war………..a war with Iran…….that’s the writing on the wall, in the blogs, in the magazines……..the rumblings of the head honchos who should know what’s going on……….It appears as though this “rogue administration” will continue on it’s path of chaos and destruction………It appears that nothing can or will stop Bush and his gang……….It appears that way to me…….Of course this is still a democracy…….um, maybe……”We The People” have the power to change all this…………Choose a path of peace…….
Surely we, the majority who want to end the occupation of Iraq will not stand by and let this administration take this country into a war with Iran………Will we?
To paraphrase Edmund Burke…….
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil men is for good women to do nothing”…………..
It’s the day after September 11th…….and it’s the day after Petraeus told Bush what he thinks about Iraq (the timing no coincidence, they’re still trying to link this tragedy in the mind of the unaware)……It wasn’t a surprise, we were certainly forewarned, but still there was that shred of hope……. According to the latest poll, 69% of U.S. citizens want to end the war in Iraq. But they don’t know what to do. After you email your representatives, call Congress, call the White House, many times, sign on-line letters, write letters to the editor, attend protest marches, vigils, put bumper stickers on your car talk, talk, assuming you are not willing to get arrested for an act of civil disobedience (I am not), what is left to do? The troop reduction to pre-surge levels just that. There’s no end to this war….make that occupation, in sight. Things go on……and on…..The next President will end it. Perhaps……..But we have those options “on the table”. The war machine is hungry, voracious……The best minds can’t figure a way out of what G.W.B. got this country into, so they say. Or there is no good answer. It seems the answer is, bring the troops and equipment home now,(which will take a year), use the billions that would have been spent on war to rebuild to some level, and start working on peaceful coexistence. But that would send Iraq into “chaos” and have “devastating consequences”………Could it be more devastating and chaotic than it is NOW????……..
Now it’s two days after……..and the Dems are saying this isn’t enough……they still need 60 votes to overide a veto…..or 71…..call your Republican senator…maybe he/she will see the light………
The truth is in this next statement, a quote by Marianne Williamson, indeed is the only real answer to healing this planet of strife and all it’s woes………
“Personal transformation can and does have global effects. As we go, so goes the world, for the world is us. The revolution that will save the world is ultimately a personal one.”
This war is being fought in your name, my name……..Aren’t we the American people?……Isn’t the United States government…….Us?……..Today, we’re sitting around waiting to see what Gen. Petraeus will say………..though it seems to be a foregone conclusion……..BUsh will get his way, but…… Generals have been wrong before………..Are we all subscribing to the “worth it” theory?……..Who really suffers in war?……….THE CHILDREN, THE CHILDREN……if a million Iraqis are dead, how many are little children?………How many are horribly wounded?…………..You may have lost a soldier, you may have a son or daughter wounded, but at least they made a choice to join the military…………What about a 6-year old?……..Who’s lost both hands?
If you want this war to end, are you doing enough to bring this about?…….Am I?
Yes, I started off with quite a passion, just brimming with righteous indignation on a whole host of subjects! And just where has that passion gone off to?……….I seem to have a severe and persistent case of Bloggersblock……..It’s all sounding redundant……….I’m starting to repeat myself………just more gloom and doom……..Darn, why can’t I look on the Bright Side, find the.Silver Lining in that thunderhead, see the Light At The End Of The Tunnel, dance merrily through the streets of Lalaland, be content on my little half-acre and let the cares of the world go right on by???…………One person said to me, “At some point, you have to let go of these issues you can’t change”. Another said, “Don’t focus on what isn’t, focus on what is”……..Neither quite works for me. Nor does the Serenity Prayer. I’ve not been granted the wisdom to know the difference. Hope springs eternal, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
